The term "Mercury Retrograde" is often misused or misunderstood by the public at large yet it is quite easy to understand how and when this celestial event will effect us astologically. By referencing coming Retrograde Periods we can mark our calendars and use natal charts to see when and how we will be touched. By taking these simple steps we can objectively foresee with confident clarity and engage accordingly with Mercury retrogrades rather than be at the mercy of unfolding events.

How Does Zodiac Sign Astrology Work?

There are many forms of astrology, so what form is it that astrologers in newspapers and on-line use and does their advice really work?

Newspaper and on-line astrologers write columns based on the Sun, or Zodiac sign, from when a person's birthday occurs. So, for example, if someone is born on the 4th of August, they would be a Leo, because the zodiac sign of Leo, begins on 23rd of July and ends on the 23rd of August. So each zodiac sign's life is around 4 weeks long.

There are twelve zodiac signs, beginning with Aries, running through Taurus, Gemini, Cancer, Leo, Virgo, Libra, Scorpio, Sagittarius, Capricorn, Aquarius and finally Pisces.

Each one of these sign has unique characteristics, and are governed by four different Elements of Fire, Earth, Air and Water, and three different Qualities, known as Cardinal, Fixed and Mutable.

And everyday, the planets of the Sun, the Moon, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune and Pluto, are all forming angles to one an other, which creates energies known in astrology, as aspects. Each has unique impact and what can be good for one zodiac sign may be more challenging for another. There are also good or helpful aspects, and tough and more unhelpful ones.

What a media astrologer does, is see where the planets are each day, in relation to the twelve basic zodiac signs. All this activity, then needs to be described in a way that relates to everyday life - and whether a planetary aspect will be more helpful or more challenging.

Now of course, some people believe this is way too generalised, and the oft said argument, is how can one twelfth of the population, all be having the same kind of day. And this is of course, indisputable. However, if a newspaper astrologer is really skillful, they can sketch the background energies, in such a way that people can see the parallels in their own situation.

Nor do media astrologers themselves believe that this is the only way to approach this ancient subject, knowing as they do, that each person has their own unique birth horoscope based on their date, time and place of birth, but a daily or weekly column can provide some helpful insight in what is a spiritual pit stop for the reader in a busy day, week or month.

Full Moon in Cancer - July 2011 Horoscope

Cancer - Capricorn
